Breast Imaging
Breast imaging encompasses different imaging methods available at the UHS Breast Center in Vestal such as:
- Mammography
- Breast ultrasound
- Breast MRI
Each imaging study provides different information that helps your physicians (and surgeons) determine whether or not your breast is healthy, needs to have a biopsy or needs to be watched closely for changes.
Since there is no one imaging method that can detect 100% of all breast cancers, imaging studies are used in conjunction with your healthcare provider’s assessment and clinical breast exam. UHS offers breast ultrasound and imaging here at our Breast Center in Vestal.
Screening studies vs. diagnostic studies
- A screening study is used to check for breast cancer in women who have no signs or symptoms of the disease
- A diagnostic study can also be used to check for breast cancer after a lump or other sign or symptom of breast disease has been found
