Local and Regional Artwork displayed throughout Wilson Main Tower

Throughout history, the healing power of art has been recognized and appreciated across all cultures. Incorporating art into the design of the UHS Wilson Main Tower was a priority from the very beginning of the project.

UHS leaders and the project’s architectural firm worked together to envision a healing dimension for the tower that would include and emphasize uplifting original art. We committed to creating a holistic environment that would be a balm to the senses, reducing stress and anxiety for patients, visitors and staff who enter the facility.

Our curated exhibit includes nearly 150 original pieces of artwork from 23 different artists in both our public and patient spaces.

She is especially fond of water and snow scenes.  Donna is a member of Tioga County Arts Council and is a board member of the Fine Arts Society of the Southern Tier (FASST).  Nothing is more relaxing than painting. Danette Matteo:

Danette’s entire life has been about creating. As a young child she drew by using her mother’s sample Avon lipsticks; threw paint on paper spinning on her record turntable; and wove baskets from branches of their weeping willow tree. Danette enrolled full-time at Binghamton University in 1995 and received her bachelor’s in fine arts in painting in 1998.

She has always been passionate about the landscape and how nature feeds her soul. There were hills around their house to hike in when she was a child and as an adult, she returned to nature to be renewed and energized to fuel and influence her artwork. Nature has been the theme of her artwork whether it be landscape or representational. Danette has worked in different painting media such as oil, acrylic, encaustic, and mixed media. Her passion and determination come from her upbringing. She grew up in an Italian family in Endicott, NY.  Her grandparents lived upstairs in their two-family home. She was raised by artisans, enthusiastic energetic people who could tend a garden, fix anything, cook everything, knit, sew, quilt, and have jobs.  Danette’s mom was a strong female figure in the working world when it was unusual to be a woman manager. We learned it all. This has made Danette who she is today.  She embraced her roots in 2006 when she attended a Painting Workshop in Italy. This was an emotional trip that elevated her artistic desires.  In 2001 and 2002 she studied Art Education at Syracuse University and graphic art & design at State University of NY at Oneonta. She also was a part-time drawing and painting instructor for community education classes at Broome/Tioga BOCES and Broome Community College.  She has been represented by four different galleries: The Zenith Gallery in Washington, DC; Orazio Salati Gallery, Binghamton, NY; and presently Frank Longo Originals & Gallery, Johnson City, NY as well as the Cooperative Gallery 213, Binghamton, NY. Danette has been fortunate to exhibit her work in many shows during her career. She is thankful to have some permanent collections in the area, all oil landscapes: NBT Bank, Robinson St., Binghamton, NY; St. Anthony of Padua Church, Endicott, NY; Temple Concord Synagogue, Binghamton, NY; Blue Dolphin Diner, Apalachin, NY.
