UHS Delaware Valley Hospital opens doors to community during power outage

November 26, 2024

UHS Delaware Valley Hospital (DVH) stepped in to assist the community after a powerful overnight snowstorm knocked out power to over 10,000 residents in Delaware County early on the morning of Friday, November 22. All residents in the town and village of Walton were left without power, according to reports.

When it became clear that power would not be quickly restored, DVH took immediate action, setting up a warming center to provide shelter. The hospital welcomed anyone in need of warmth or access to oxygen.

For DVH President and CEO Rolland "Boomer" Bojo, whose mission has always been to serve the community, opening the hospital doors was an easy decision.

“We will do whatever is necessary to support our community in times of need,” he emphasized.

More than 50 community members came to the hospital on Friday for warmth, oxygen, food, and hot coffee.

"I see every day how our staff takes pride in being the anchor of healthcare in Delaware County,” said Jeffrey Gray, MD, Chief Medical Officer, UHS. “Making the hospital available to the community, with the recent power outage, is indicative of the culture of the entire DVH team. I couldn't be prouder of how every single employee stepped up to help our community when they needed us most."

As DVH continues its mission to support the health and well-being of the community, the hospital remains committed to being a safe haven in times of need.
