Three UHS clinical sites recognized for 2024 pediatric lead-testing

October 30, 2024

Three UHS clinical locations recently earned recognition from the Broome County Health Department for their testing rate of blood lead levels in young children.

The clinical teams were honored for their achievements, receiving 2024 Lead Education Advocacy and Diagnostic Awards, also known as “Leady Awards.”

UHS Pediatrics Chenango Bridge took home awards for the highest lead testing rates for both one-year-olds (66.21%) and two-year-olds (63.89%).

Most Improved awards were taken home by UHS Primary Care Endicott (up 6.73% from 2023 for one-year-olds) and UHS Primary Care Johnson City (up 12.11% from 2023 for two-year-olds).

Lead testing typically is done when a patient age 1 or 2 comes in for their annual wellness checkup. The test is conducted using an in-office lead testing machine and the results are available during the same appointment.

Many homes in the Southern Tier have lead paint, which can put children at an elevated risk of disease living in those areas.

UHS Pediatrics Chenango Bridge was recognized with a Leady Award in 2023 as well.

Congratulations to our teams for their work in keeping our communities safe and healthy!
