Signs signal new era in Southern Tier child care
Prominent lighted signs were installed Dec. 20 on the future UHS Child Care building on Main Street in Johnson City, signaling a new era in the provision of child care services in the Southern Tier. UHS will open the center in early 2024 at 619 Main St. in the former ALDI building, which has been beautifully renovated into a state-of-the-art child care facility.
The project is supported in part by a grant from the UHS Foundation, as well as state funding secured by Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo. UHS’ partner in the operation of the center, Bright Horizons, will offer a curriculum that is one of the most highly rated nationwide. The center will serve both UHS employees and families from the greater Southern Tier community.
The facility is designed especially for young children, with age-appropriate and challenging educational toys and materials, plus cozy furnishings. Also included are a movement room for large-muscle activities, an active-learning and problem-solving laboratory, a library featuring dramatic play materials and books, developmentally appropriate outdoor play areas and windows positioned at a level where children can easily see out of them. The goal of the region’s premier child care program is for the children’s experience to inspire interest, curiosity and learning.
The center is now enrolling in all age groups. To register your child now or receive more information, contact the center’s director at maureen.mecca@brighthorizons.com, or visit nyuhs.org/uhs-child-care.
