New Horizons team takes part in Black Balloon Day
On March 6, across the United States, families and loved ones remember and celebrate the lives lost to overdose. This day has become known as Black Balloon Day.
The UHS New Horizons Outpatient team held a Black Balloon Day event where they offered Narcan training, Narcan kits, education, support and resources to the community. The team also provided black balloon flyers, which allow patients to honor a lost loved one due to an overdose.
Black Balloon Day was started by Diane and Lauren Hurley in remembrance of Greg Tremblay. Tremblay, a father of four, died of an overdose when he was 38 years old. Black Balloon Day was then established to help shed light on the opioid epidemic and create awareness around the important issue of providing support to those struggling with substance use disorder and their loved ones.
