November 05, 2024

Katelyn Allabaugh, BSN, RN, Nursing Coordinator, UHS Binghamton General Hospital Emergency Department, was recently honored by the Greater Binghamton Chamber with a Hype Award recognizing her for outstanding service to the Greater Binghamton area.

The annual Hype Awards recognize 10 young professionals in the region for their service and leadership. This year’s event was hosted on October 25 at the Riverdale Banquet Hall in Endwell celebrating this year’s honorees.

Katie serves as the Nursing Coordinator in the UHS Binghamton General Hospital Emergency Department. She oversees day-to-day operations including scheduling, conflict resolution, and supervision of clinical nursing staff.  She works closely with the nurse manager and other department coordinators to implement hospital policies, maintain high standards of care, and continuously monitor and enhance the quality of nursing services.

"Recommending Katelyn for a HYPE Award is an easy decision. She is a young professional whose wisdom and maturity surpass her years, and her passion for helping others is evident," said the letter nominating Katie. "As a nurse, she has become a formidable and exemplary practitioner, and she is emerging as a leader at UHS. Katelyn's compassion is unwavering; she consistently prioritizes the needs of patients, peers, and visitors alike."

Katie's work in the community doesn't stop helping patients at work. She recently made a presentation to the Broome County Sheriff’s department on the perspectives of people who have exhibited trauma, psychoses, and substance use disorders. She is also involved in STEM programming for school-age kids at Your Home Library in Johnson City, a program designed for the kids to learn computer coding. Katie is also a past participant in Giving Day at SUNY Broome, Nursing Professional Development Day, Special Olympics Golf, the Suicide Prevention Walk and the Heart Walk.

Each experience reinforces her belief in the power of giving back and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Katie aims to reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues and substance use disorders and to promote wellness. Katie embodies many UHS values, including compassion and innovation, while aspiring to continue making an impact in psychiatric nursing, addiction medicine and emergency healthcare.

Congratulations to Katie on this well deserved recognition!
