UHS Trauma team wraps up Tai Chi fall-prevention class
The UHS Trauma Department recently wrapped up a 10-week "Tai Chi for Fall Prevention" workshop at the Broome West Senior Center.
Tai chi improves balance by strengthening muscles and coordination; at the same time, it strengthens the mind, thereby improving calmness and confidence in not falling. Thus, both physically and mentally, tai chi is an extremely effective exercise for fall prevention.
Participants valued the team's time and appreciated the new technique to avoid falls.
The team will be offering the course again July 12 to Sept 15, on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 11am to noon, at the Vestal Senior Center.
If you know someone who is interested, please have them call Mary Jane Lawrence at 778-2411 at the Office for Aging or the UHS Trauma Department.
Thank you to our Trauma team for working with our elderly population to help limit falls.
