UHS teams with renowned cardiac specialists to advance care
The UHS Heart & Vascular Institute has added several regionally acclaimed cardiac surgeons to the team this summer. Continuing to enhance cardiovascular care in the Southern Tier, UHS has entered into a partnership with Cardiac Surgery Associates of Central New York, a Syracuse-based cardiac surgical group.
Through this partnership, several new cardiovascular surgeons have teamed up with the UHS institute to provide care. These include Charles Lutz, MD, and G. Randall Green, MD. Dr. Lutz and Dr. Green are highly experienced cardiac surgeons, well-known in upstate New York for their exceptional patient care, quality of work and excellent surgical outcomes.
Dr. Lutz received his medical degree from the State University of New York’s Health Sciences Center in Syracuse and completed a residency at SUNY Upstate University Hospital. He also completed fellowships at SUNY Upstate and the University of Utah School of Medicine.
Dr. Green earned his medical degree at Northwestern University and a master of business administration degree from Cornell University. An attorney as well as a surgeon, he received his law degree from Syracuse University.
Courtney Maxey-Jones, MD, a cardiac anesthesiologist and intensivist, also joined UHS’ medical staff in June. Dr. Maxey-Jones received her medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine and completed her internship year here at UHS and her anesthesia residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. She also completed a fellowship in critical care medicine at the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center. Previously, Dr. Maxey-Jones worked at St. Joseph’s Health in Syracuse and was medical director of Mechanical Circulatory Support/ECMO there.
We welcome these superb cardiac surgeons and anesthesiologist/cardiac intensivist to UHS. They add to our current team of highly qualified cardiac surgeons: Kenneth Wong, MD; Mohammad Jamil, MD; and M. Farhan Nadeem, MD; and our cardiac anesthesiologists W. Leif Ericksen, MD, and Sathappan Karuppiah, MD. Together, they will enhance cardiac surgery at UHS to the benefit and satisfaction of our community.
The pioneer in bringing heart surgery to the Southern Tier in the 1980s, UHS today provides the latest in diagnosis and treatment for heart and vascular conditions, offering the knowledge and skill of board-certified cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons.
The UHS Heart & Vascular Institute is the only program in the Southern Tier to use state-of-the-art diagnostics and the most advanced responses to heart disease, such as cardiac imaging and minimally invasive transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
Specific services include general cardiology, non-invasive cardiac testing, cardiac imaging, valve and vascular surgery, cardiac rehabilitation, interventional cardiology and electrophysiology, as well as specialized clinics in anti-coagulation and congestive heart failure care.
