UHS Home Care services are a lifeline for many
November is National Home Care and Hospice Month, a time when home care agencies and caregivers across the country raise awareness about the unique and irreplaceable value of healthcare delivered in the home. UHS is the leading provider of home care services in the Greater Binghamton area. Our home care programs offer a wide array of services, including highly skilled, specialized nursing care, monitors and nutritional supplies, durable medical equipment and many therapies.
Among the special programs and services offered are these:
Home Emergency Alarm Response or HEAR for short—This service offers emergency help at the touch of a button, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It’s an affordable system for you whether you are an elderly person or anyone of any age who wants to stay connected in the event of an emergency. You can choose from three options:
- The global positioning system (GPS) device allows our operators to pinpoint your exact location when you are on the go and send assistance with the push of a button.
- The landline device consists of a small console box that plugs into the phone jack and an electrical outlet, so you can press the activator for instant help.
- If you have no landline, the wireless option doesn’t need to be plugged into a phone jack, but still permits two-way communication within 300 feet of the unit.
Heart at Home— This program provides support and education in patients’ homes with the goal of increasing patients’ knowledge of the signs and symptoms of congestive heart failure, thereby allowing early intervention to avoid hospital readmissions.
Non-invasive ventilation therapy— If a non-invasive ventilation machine has been prescribed for a patient, a friendly, helpful and knowledgeable respiratory therapist from UHS Home Care will come to the person’s home to teach them and their family member how to correctly use the equipment.
Equipment and therapies— The home care agency offers a wide range of durable medical equipment and aids to daily living, as well as oxygen, sleep and negative pressure therapy, plus support services.
Specialized care in the home— UHS Home Care provides a wide variety of nursing services; physical, occupational and speech therapy and rehabilitation; education about nutrition and disease management; medical social services; and home health aide services.
Organizations like UHS Home Care provide high-quality and compassionate healthcare services to more than five million Americans annually, especially in times of community or personal health crisis.
Ninety percent of Americans want to age in place. Home care is the preferred method of healthcare delivery among many disabled, elderly and chronically ill individuals eager to live independently in their own homes as long as they possibly can. Home care services allow families to stay together, and provide for health, dignity and comfort in our communities. Home care in the U.S. is a growing alternative to hospitalization or other institution-based forms of care for acute and chronic illnesses, providing care to millions of Americans each year.
Two million everyday heroes, such as the members of the UHS Home Care team, include home care nurses, therapists and aides. Nationwide they will travel almost one billion miles to deliver care and work tirelessly to provide professional support to millions of Americans in need of quality health services.
