Team UHS takes part in Black Balloon Day
March 07, 2025
On March 6, across the United States, families and loved ones remember and celebrate the lives lost to overdose. This day has become known as Black Balloon Day.
The UHS Addiction Medicine team held a Black Balloon Day event where they held a brief ceremony and moment of silence and remembrance in honor of those that have been lost in our community. The team also provided black balloon flyers, which allow participants to honor a lost loved one due to an overdose.
Black Balloon Day was started by Diane and Lauren Hurley in remembrance of Greg Tremblay. Tremblay, a father of four, died of an overdose when he was 38 years old. Black Balloon Day was then established to help shed light on the opioid epidemic and create awareness around the important issue of providing support to those struggling with substance use disorder and their loved ones.
