The DAISY Team Award is Coming to UHS
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way. To learn more, visit DAISYFoundation.org.
This program to recognize the care and compassion of extraordinary individual nurses was implemented at UHS in March. Nurses may be nominated by anyone in the organization - patients, family members, other nurses, physicians, other clinicians and staff - anyone who experiences or observes extraordinary care being provided by a nurse.
UHS is now pleased to announce that we will be accepting nominations for extraordinary TEAMS of nurses. While the individual DAISY Award is awarded monthly, the DAISY Team Award will only be given once a year in May. Nominations for the Team Award will be accepted and collected throughout the year.
Nominations may submitted on NYUHS.org in the Recognize an Employee section, via email to the below daisy email address, or by filling out a paper nomination form located at a DAISY kiosk in a central location at a UHS facility. Patients also receive a nomination form in their admission packets.
On this form, the person will be able to tell the story of why they are nominating the nurse, or team of nurses, while also choosing which UHS Value (Compassion, Trust, Respect, Teamwork, Innovation) the nurse displayed.
