2 UHS clinical sites recognized for pediatric lead-testing
Two UHS clinical locations were recognized by the Tioga County Health Department for their testing rates of blood lead levels in young children.
The clinical teams at UHS Primary Care Candor and UHS Primary Care Newark Valley earned the 2024 “Lead Avengers” awards for posting the highest levels of lead testing of patients in their area.
UHS Primary Care Candor posted the highest testing rates for 1-year olds in the county, and UHS Primary Care Newark Valley achieved the highest testing rates for 2-year olds.
Lead testing is typically done when a patient aged 1 or 2 comes in for their annual wellness checkup. A quick finger poke gets a blood sample, and is then tested using an in-office lead testing machine and the results become available during the same appointment.
Patients in these communities are at a higher level of risk for exposure due to the presence of lead paint in many homes.
Congratulations to these two offices for their dedication in protecting Tioga County's youth!
