Partnering with the VA to Care for Veterans
Through Community Care, UHS offers services close to home.
If you’re a U.S. military veteran, UHS would like you to know that we are a member of the Veterans Administration’s Community Care Network. This means that you can receive a wide range of health and medical services at a UHS hospital or provider’s office, right here in the Southern Tier, without having to travel to a VA facility own of town.
How is this possible?
The VA Community Care Network is the VA’s direct link with community hospitals, clinics and physicians to ensure that you as a veteran receive care that is high-quality, convenient and accessible in a timely manner. Right here at home, in the Southern Tier.
The VA’s association with UHS enables you to get the care you need for service-related or non-service-related medical conditions, if the VA cannot provide the care you need or accessing the care out of town would be a hardship for you.
Community Care is available to you based on certain conditions and eligibility requirements, and in consideration of your specific needs and circumstances. The care must first be authorized by the VA, and a referral made to a UHS department or provider.
UHS shares the VA’s commitment to removing barriers to care so that you are able to receive the diagnosis, treatment and recovery resources that will best meet your needs. We are proud to be a designated organization of the CCN and to do our part in providing for the health and medical needs of those who have so bravely served our country. 'Community Care works for me!'
“I was a medical flight transport specialist in Operation Iraqi Freedom when I suffered a knee injury. Although the injury was repaired, I still have flare-ups and, at times, chronic pain. If it weren’t for UHS partnering with the VA Community Care Network for specialist care, I would have to go to Albany, Syracuse or Rochester for the care I need to have as pain-free a life as possible. By being authorized to be seen outside the VA at a Community Care provider not only saves me time, but allows me to get the care I need right in the community where I live and work.”
