The Joint Commission's mission is to continuously improve healthcare for the public, in collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating healthcare organizations and inspiring them to excel at providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value.
It is the policy of UHS to be a model corporate citizen and adhere to all laws and regulations governing our operations.
The UHS Board of Directors has adopted a set of core values for our organization. In alignment with our organization’s mission and values, UHS is committed to compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including those that prohibit fraud, waste, and abuse in governmental payor programs. To facilitate such compliance, UHS has voluntarily adopted a Corporate Compliance program that is intended to meet the criteria set forth in the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General’s Compliance Program, Federal Sentencing, and Office of Medicaid Inspector General guidelines.
As part of our program, UHS has adopted compliance policies and procedures that describe the ethical and legal responsibilities of all employees and staff of UHS, its subsidiaries and divisions, and any contractors acting on the company’s behalf. All are expected to follow the UHS code of ethics and commitment to compliance.
UHS is a not-for-profit organization, operated for the public benefit. Each of the seven member organizations comprising UHS is owned by the community it serves, and each organization is governed by an all-volunteer board of directors composed of local citizens. Also, each has adopted its own compliance program, which is administered by the compliance committee and designated chairperson. These committees report bi-monthly to the UHS Corporate Compliance Council, which is chaired by the Corporate Compliance Officer.
