‘Wear Red Day’ to raise awareness of heart disease among women
In observance of National Wear Red Day, UHS will hold a “Go Red for Women” event starting at 10 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 3, 2023. Senior leaders, clinical experts and members of the American Heart Association will gather to observe the event which is marked to recognize cardiovascular disease in women.
The annual event held by UHS includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony, designed to raise public awareness of heart disease in women and the unique symptoms with which it often presents. Part of the nationwide “Go Red for Women” campaign, the special day is a presentation of UHS in conjunction with the American Heart Association.
Many of those attending will be decked out in red sweaters, dresses, shirts, ties or scarves to call attention to prevention, early detection and treatment of heart conditions in women.
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States, accounting for more than 314,000 deaths a year, or about one in every five female deaths. Yet heart disease very often can be prevented with education and lifestyle changes.
The American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiative, Go Red for Women is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women in the U.S. and around the globe.
