United Health Services (UHS) Celebrates National Hospital Week, May 7-13, 2023
Coverage of outdoor events and activities is encouraged; Please contact us in advance at (607) 762-2236
In celebration of National Hospital Week 2023, which overlaps with National Nurses Week (May 6-12), UHS will join with similar organizations across the country to recognize and celebrate all of the healthcare professionals on the UHS team – the people who care for patients and residents in many settings, from hospitals and medical centers to nursing homes, home care agencies, and primary and specialty care offices.
The joint observance gives us the opportunity to thank everyone who works as part of the healthcare team for the dramatic and meaningful difference they make in the lives of those we serve. The Hospital Week theme this year is: “We are healthcare, we are UHS!”
Many events and enjoyable activities are scheduled across UHS to celebrate the team, both those who give direct hands-on care and those who work behind the scenes to support their colleagues.
John Carrigg, President and CEO of UHS, expressed his gratitude to thousands of UHS employees in a special message on Monday stating, “People seek us out when they are at their most vulnerable, coping with illness or injury, and in need of the healing and potentially life-saving attention that only healthcare professionals can provide. This was evident in our community during the pandemic and remains so today. You and your colleagues on Team UHS live our Values every day, practicing dedication and commitment through your positive attitude and actions. Your focus is on enhancing the life of every patient with whom you interact, either directly or in a support role. You treat your chosen field as a calling, as you listen, show respect and give hope. And for that you have the profound gratitude of all of us at UHS.”
During the observances there will be barbecues, ice cream deliveries, trivia contests, prize drawings, a scavenger hunt and giant coloring poster activity. Senior leaders within UHS will be attending all barbecues.
Other activities at a wide array of UHS venues will include a “Blessing of the Hands,” chair massage and yoga, Zumba and visits by a therapy dog.
A new tribute video for nurses is featured on the UHS intranet site.
The impetus for a designated Nurses Week began in the 1950s, with the celebration observed annually starting on May 6 and ending on May 12, Florence Nightingale's birthday.
National Hospital Week, May 7 to 13, aims to recognize and celebrate the 6.3 million individuals who work in America’s hospitals and health systems and the vital role they play in our society.
