UHS salutes auxilians for special service
UHS salutes the many members of its hospital auxiliaries on Wednesday, May 2, Healthcare Auxilian Day in New York State.
During the past year, auxilians at UHS Hospitals gave 17,000 hours of volunteer service by holding vendor sales, managing the gift shops, delivering flowers to patient rooms and otherwise assisting at UHS Wilson Medical Center and UHS Binghamton General Hospital.
Auxilians also contributed hours at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, UHS Delaware Valley Hospital and UHS Senior Living at Ideal.
The UHS Auxiliary Binghamton General Hospital donated close to $40,000 to the UHS Foundation in support of patient care and service, as well as for student scholarships in the healthcare field, and the UHS Auxiliary Wilson Medical Center donated $10,000.
Auxilians at UHS Chenango Memorial contributed $38,000 and those at UHS Delaware Valley $9,600.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo proclaimed May 2 Auxilian Day to recognize the dedicated women and men who give more than five million hours of service each year to their healthcare institutions and communities across the Empire State.
New York is home to more than 75,000 healthcare auxilians who initiate, fund and volunteer in connection with a wide variety of patient and family care services, from inpatient units to outpatient clinics to nursing homes.
UHS Wilson and UHS Binghamton General will honor their auxiliary boards of directors at a brunch this month, and UHS Chenango Memorial will hold a recognition luncheon at the Canasawacta Country Club. UHS Delaware Valley held an auxiliary luncheon in April.
