UHS recognizes nursing professionals

UHS has given special recognition to a number of its nursing professionals in connection with National Nurses' Week and related observances this month.

Two nurses from UHS were honored at the recent Nurses’ Day breakfast of the Professional Nurses’ Association of South-Central New York.

Timothy Foster, RN, Intensive Care Unit, UHS Binghamton General, received the Aspiring Professional Nurse Award.

The award was presented by Hai-Duong Tran, RN, president-elect of the association and a nurse educator in Nursing Education and Professional Practice at UHS.

Debra Murphy, RN, Clinical Practice, received the PNA Scholarship for Advancing Nursing Education.

In addition, 38 nurses and 29 nursing support staff have been honored by the Nursing Division at UHS Hospitals as “Cultural Change Ambassadors.”

In a letter to each 2017 Honored Nursing Award recipient, Kay Boland, RN, vice president for
Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer at UHS, said:

“We are recognizing you as a catalyst for positive change in our patient care environment. You have consistently demonstrated an ability to engage and motivate your peers and promote positive change. It is evident that you are a nurse who leads by your example and your actions.”

Continuing, Kay noted: “A great change ambassador is a person who is patient yet persistent and who understands that positive change doesn’t happen overnight. It is vital that every unit has a consistent advocate for change. Your beliefs and your voice help to keep the fire burning when change needs to occur.”
