UHS Delaware Valley Hospital Pennies from Heaven fundraiser a success
The annual UHS Delaware Valley Hospital fundraiser, Pennies from Heaven, in its 25th year, was held at the Townsend Elementary School, in Walton during the month of February. Students brought pennies they had been saving all year, in envelopes, baggies and boxes and even large plastic milk jugs and containers! This community project is always a lot of fun and a friendly competition between classrooms as they compete for the lunch party that goes to the classroom that collects the most pounds of pennies. This year, Mrs. Wagner's first grade class won; bringing in 195 lbs of pennies!
Mrs. Stinson's Kindergarten class, Mrs. Core's, Mrs. Ammon's, Ms. Bayne's, Mr. Clerkin's and Mrs. Smith's classes will also receive treats for bringing in the most pennies at their respective grade level.
Altogether, the school collected 661 pounds of pennies. The total should come out to approximately $1,100, which is donated to UHS Delaware Valley Hospital. The staff of Wayne Bank graciously counts the thousands of pennies collected.
The program, which began in 1998, finished its 25th year. Over that time, Townsend Elementary has raised 24,818 pounds, which comes out to more than $40,100 donated.
