Seminar to focus on addiction as a disease
The disease of addiction will be the topic of a free public seminar in April at UHS Stay Healthy at the Oakdale Mall.
Julia Hunter, MD, a chemical dependency treatment specialist at UHS, will use a case study to provide a greater understanding of the disease and those living with it.
The seminar will be held at 6 p.m., on Wednesday, April 5, at Stay Healthy.
Addiction's genetic and environmental risk factors, adolescent onset, brain changes and chronic nature, as well as methods of treatment, will be discussed.
Dr. Hunter received her medical degree from Upstate Medical University, and completed a residency at Fletcher Allen Health Care and a fellowship at Summa Health Systems.
She is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.
The seminar is free, but advance registration is required, as seating is limited.
