Inpatient navigator meets respiratory patients’ needs
UHS recognizes our respiratory professionals during Respiratory Therapy Week, Oct. 23 to 29.
Respiratory patients in the hospital have a new resource to guide them through the challenges of their medical condition.
UHS has introduced an inpatient respiratory navigator at UHS Wilson Medical Center and UHS Binghamton General Hospital.
“The inpatient navigator works in conjunction with the outpatient navigator to offer continuity of care to our patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other respiratory conditions,” said Rich Fabian, manager of Population Health.
Jessica Lane, inpatient navigator, has joined Kate DiPietro, outpatient navigator, on UHS’ respiratory team.
UHS has offered the outpatient program since 2018.
In healthcare today, navigators help patients understand and move from one part of their care plan to the next, including staying on the medical regimens they need to help them recover.
Healthcare navigators are critical because they help patients understand the steps in the treatment process that can be complex and difficult to maintain.
