Fundraiser has helped feed thousands in need
More than 141,000 meals for those in need have been funded by the Empty Bowls event at UHS since 2005.
For every ticket sold for the luncheons, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier provides 75 meals to the hungry in the Southern Tier.
Most of the assistance is furnished to people in Broome County, with residents of Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Tompkins counties also receiving food.
Proceeds from each $25 ticket benefit the Food Bank ($20) and the UHS Foundation's Stop Hunger Fund ($5).
Presented by UHS and the Compass Group, the 13th annual Empty Bowls is open to the public and will be held on Wednesday, April 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Community Room, Eckelberger Tower, UHS Wilson Medical Center; and on Thursday, April 6, from 11:30 to 1:30, Russell Room, UHS Binghamton General Hospital.
It will feature soups, salads, a mashed potato bar, a Thai food station, desserts and beverages. Attendees will be able to take home a handcrafted bowl, donated by Clayworks at the Roberson Museum in Binghamton.
