Auxilians honored on their special day, May 3
UHS is saluting its auxilians on Wednesday, May 3, Healthcare Auxilian Day in New York State.
During the past year, auxilians at UHS Hospitals gave 17,000 hours of volunteer service by holding vendor sales, managing the gift shops and otherwise assisting at the Hospitals.
The UHS Auxiliary Binghamton General Hospital donated $50,000 to the UHS Foundation in support of patient care and service, as well as student scholarships.
The UHS Auxiliary Wilson Medical Center donated $10,000 to the Foundation.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo proclaimed May 3 Healthcare Auxilian Day in New York to recognize the dedicated auxilians who annually donate more than five million hours of service to their healthcare facilities and communities.
New York State has more than 75,000 healthcare auxilians who initiate, fund and volunteer for a wide variety of patient and family care services, from outpatient clinics to intensive care units.
They sponsor community health fairs, health screenings, blood banks and wellness lecture series, while also raising funds for hospital and nursing home equipment, and organizing and underwriting outreach and scholarship programs.
