Ciana Marte is our latest Sunshine Award winner!

A program to recognize the extraordinary care and contributions of our non-licensed nursing support staff continues at UHS with Ciana Marte, NA, UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, Medical Surgical Unit, being named the October winner of the Sunshine Program Award! Ciana was recognized and presented with the Sunshine Award and sunflowers for her achievement and enjoyed cookies as part of the celebration.

The Med Surg nursing assistant was nominated by a colleague on behalf of a patient Ciana cared for. The colleague spoke about how appreciative the patient was of Ciana's care because she was so compassionate to her needs and always organized. The nominating letter went on to talk about how Ciana helped in multiple ways, including assisting physical therapy with the difficult process of getting the patient to a standing position and helping wash her back, give her a back rub and change her bedding. 

"She was always anticipatory to all this lady's needs, and she always looked and behaved professionally," said Ciana's colleague on behalf of the patient. "Her demeanor helped this patient relax and feel confident that her care would be experienced and complete. This patient wanted to be sure that Ciana would be recognized for her excellence."

Patients, families, and colleagues are able to nominate any of our non-licensed support staff based on our UHS Values of Respect, Teamwork, Innovation, Trust, and especially Compassion. Nominations will be collected via paper - look for nomination kiosks and boxes at all UHS locations, via email at sunshine.awards@nyuhs.org, and electronically.

All nominees will be recognized, but each month, one nominee will be selected for a special recognition.
