International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day
Saturday, November 23 is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, the one day a year when people affected by suicide loss gather to find comfort and gain understanding as they share stories of healing and hope. This event is for Survivors of Suicide Loss only, and is for those living in Broome or Tioga Counties.
UHS will hold a Survivor Day event on Saturday, November 23 from 9am - 11:30am in the Russell Room at UHS Binghamton General Hospital (33 Mitchell Ave, Binghamton, NY). The event is held in cooperation with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and B.C. SAFE (Broome County Suicide Awareness for Families and Educators).

For many loss survivors, attending a Survivor Day event is an opportunity to discover that they are not alone in their experience of losing someone they know and love to suicide.
Light breakfast and art activities will be offered during this event. There will also be a candlelight and sand ceremony for those who have been lost.
The event will also include a screening of an AFSP-produced documentary for of “A Daughter’s Journey” an AFSP-produced documentary that follows Sarah, a young adult, through her story of milestones, family coping and positive growth after the loss of her father. The film shares hope, connection, resilience in the aftermath of a suicide loss.
